Early Years Foundation Stage

At all of our nurseries our aim is to ensure children always get the best care and education possible. Our aim is to help all our children develop in confidence and independence to get them ready for their transition to school.

Like all other childcare providers, we follow the Early Years Foundation stage (EYFS) which builds a coherent and flexible approach to care and learning. We recognise that every child is an individual and we take great care in planning suitable and varied activities to meet the needs and interests of every single child. These activities are reviewed daily and constantly updated.

The EYFS sets standards for the learning, development and care of your child from birth to 5 years old; your child will be taught through play.

The areas of learning are:

1. Communication and Language

2. Physical Development

3. Personal, Social and Emotional Development

4. Literacy

5. Mathematics

6. Understanding the World

7. Expressive Arts and Design

Outdoor Play

We strongly believe in the importance and benefits of daily outdoor play. Our mantra is ‘there is no such thing as bad weather, it’s bad clothing’. We have plenty of warm and waterproof clothing which means we can head out in rain or shine! As well as organised outside activities, we have many outdoor resources and these are self accessible to the children giving them the independence to access those they enjoy the most.

The children take part in weekly Forest Schools sessions, these are held in a nearby local wood. These sessions offer children the time and opportunity to experience hands on play and learning. The variety of skills used enables children to develop more quickly than in the conventional learning environment. Typical types of activities might include building dens or houses for bugs/ bird/ creatures, listening to the environment, clambering over fallen trees or branches, looking for insects/ leaves /paw marks, natural painting /drawing/ mark making with sticks, singing, playing lots of imaginative and active games. The list is endless and no session is ever the same – just always lots of fun.
